My name is Janet Ellen Baker born 3 June 1948, first child of Gil and Norma Baker. I was born at Ivanhoe, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. I had two sisters. My mother was ill most of my tender years so I was mother to my sisters. Primary school was uneventful, except I like to sew and made my auntie many dresses, in return she brought me home seconds in shoes, my love of shoes began there. Secondary was eventful as I won first prize in the Royal Melbourne Show for a tailored suit, which I still have. That led me to a scholarship to attend Emily McPherson College I wanted to be a dressmaking teacher. However being the eldest child and money being tight I was sent to work for the board. I married twice my first husband marched away to Vietnam, I built our house whilst he was away, he came home a vegetable. We divorced; we had a daughter. My second marriage did not last either as he was married to his mother, we had a son, he died 2.6.2010. My working career was successful reaching the top in my sales profession. I have entered many dressmaking competitions and won. I do alterations for formal wear and get invited to the weddings or debs. I have been a writer for many years as my dad had the gift too. I currently reside in Bendigo, Victoria, a huge regional city.
